Camden School benefits from grant

Children in year 5 at Argyle school are now the proud owners of laptops and internet dongles thanks to the e-Learning Foundation who secured a £20,000 donation from the Santander Foundation.

Argyle Primary School serves a disadvantaged community in central London and ranks highly on the deprivation index.  The project will provide 60 Year 5 pupils with new lightweight computers for use both at home and at school as well as an internet dongle to allow those who might not have the provision of the internet at home to have access.

Valerie Thompson, Chief Executive at the e-Learning Foundation said: “In a 21st century global economy our children will need state-of-the-art information technology abilities.  Far too many of our socially disadvantaged school children are denied access to the Internet and have very limited IT skills. It is a great testimony to the leadership team at this school that they recognise how important it is to ensure every child has the same opportunity.”

Samuel Jones, Branch Manager at Santander’s High Holborn branch: “I have thorough enjoyed my visit to the school today to see the children presented with their laptops.  I hope that the children benefit greatly from using the laptops and are able to expand their knowledge and learning by having access to the World Wide Web.”

The e-Learning Foundation is dedicated to ensuring that every child in the UK has home access to learning technologies.  In the last seven years the e-Learning Foundation has supported over 400 schools to provide 100,000 school age children with personalised learning technologies to use at home as well as at school.
