e-Learning School Scoops Awards At Handheld Learning Awards 2009
Normanby Primary School in Cleveland, which runs a home access project supported by the e-Learning Foundation has scooped two awards at the Handheld Learning Awards 2009 held in London. The school’s PDA’s to support learning initiative took the Innovation Award in the primary schools category and Carl Faulkner, Head Teacher took the Practitioner of the Year Award.
The Practitioner of the Year Award was in recognition of Carl’s hard work, clear vision and dedication to learning in a diverse and changing digital world.
Carl has made handheld learning a key focus in Years 5 and 6. Pupils have access to a smartphone and 24/7 connectivity to encourage anywhere, anytime learning. The school has already seen a rise in academic standards, self-esteem and social skills following the introduction of the e-learning programme, which was partly funded by the e-Learning Foundation, which provides ongoing support. The e-Learning Foundation also provides a Donation Management Service (DMS) to the school to manage parental contributions, which has cut the administrative burden of introducing the scheme.
Normanby Primary School’s pupils also won the Y-Factor Award at the Handheld Learning
Conference in London, where they shared their experiences and successes with the
delegates.
