School Information

e-safety

It is important that schools are fully aware of the issues and resources around e-safety, both for the school’s benefit as well as support for the children and their families.

We have compiled a useful resource centre for parents under our Parent Information tab but there are also some resources of specific interest to schools that we have detailed below.

UK Safer Internet Centre - provide the latest advice on how to use the internet and new technologies safely and responsibly. They also offer a range of practical resources, news and events focussing on the safe and responsible use of the internet and new technologies.

Childnet International - provides a range of resources to support schools in sharing e-safety information with parents and carers, including an interactive Know IT All for Parents resource.

The 360 degree safe online tool provides a user friendly and interactive means for schools to review their eSafety provision and to develop an action plan to bring about improvements. The tool is currently free of charge to schools on completion of a simple registration process.

Kidsmart - provide some useful lesson plan ideas and other materials and ideas.

Ofsted - claim that students are safest using the internet when they are trusted to manage their own risk. They have an interesting report at the link below.

Professor Byron - conducted an independent review in 2008 looking at the risks to children from exposure to potentially harmful or inappropriate material on the internet and in video games.

The review was about the needs of children and young people and about preserving their right to take the risks that form an inherent part of their development by enabling them to play video games and surf the net in a safe and informed way.

Facebook privacy settings - How to set up a Facebook account with privacy settings.

Microsoft Safety & Security centre - Includes how to make the most of Microsoft Windows 7 parental controls.

Google Safesearch - a guide to setting up your seach engine's safety filters.

Vodafone - Has loads of interesting articles and useful tips plus a good digital parenting checklist and advice on safe use of mobiles.
