The Home Access programme provides grant funding to 270,000 families whose children are eligible for Free School Meals and are at Key Stage 2 or 3. The grant allows the family to purchase a computer and/or internet package to support learning at home. The phone number for the public to ring for an application form is 0333 200 1004. So far over 240,000 calls have been handled.
Because in most cases families will apply directly to a central body for their grant schools are under no obligation to be involved. However, schools who wish to take a more active role, and potentially combine the programme with other work aimed at providing access at home for learners, can apply to run an aggregation scheme. This means parents can elect for their school to order the package on their behalf. So far nearly 400 schools have requested the information pack and there are already over 80 schools approved to aggregate. The deadline for schools to apply to aggregate has now passed..
