Hosted email could soon be introduced to schools across the UK after one expert said that the introduction of cloud computing "would be a great step forward for education".

Sarah Underwood, the magazine and brand editor of ICT for Education, added that many specialist schools may already be looking to introduce cloud computing and that others should follow to gain the benefits associated with the technology.

The Higher Education Funding Council for England announced earlier this month that it would be investing £12.5 million into a new programme to increase cloud computing adoption in UK colleges and universities.
