Information on Affiliation for schools

The e-Learning Foundation is an independent charity with a focus on ensuring disadvantaged children get the personal access to ICT they need, and eradicating the digital divide.  Schools can play a significant role in this process, and the Foundation can offer a wide range of support services, grants and other benefits to schools to help them succeed. In return we ask that schools become affiliated to the e-Learning Foundation, pay a small annual affiliation fee, and sign up to the core values of the Foundation which are:

  • Equity of access:  No child should be prevented from participating in an e-learning equity programme because of their financial circumstances.
  • Financial sustainability: Normally to be achieved through regular parental contributions, with additional grant support for families in disadvantaged circumstances.
  • Home use: Pupils must be allowed to use the resources at home, as and when they need it.

Home access is now high on the agenda following the launch of the £300m Government Home Access programme in January 2010. Schools will have differing levels of engagement with the programme, depending on their own strategies for ensuring that every child has the learning resources they need at home, as well as at school, to access the school learning platform and the Internet and build their ICT skills.

The e-Learning Foundation will continue to support schools already providing personal access to ICT for their students.  And it is keen to help many more schools make the most of the Home Access programme, and then enhance it to address access for all pupils, and not just those eligible for the new grant.
