The School's role

Establishing a programme that will allow all students to have access to the same standard of equipment, the same software and have the same online safety and security support is a big challenge for every school.

To achieve this they will have decided on the best device for the pupils, which year groups are to be involved in the project and how much they need parents to contribute so that they can afford to offer the programme.

The school, not the families, will own the devices during the programme which may run for two or three years. So in most cases the school is responsible for paying for the software, insurance, warranty, technical support and, most important, how they are to be used to support your children’s education.

At the end of the programme the school will decide whether to make the devices available to the parents to keep. If they do then a small charge may be required to avoid breaking the Gift Aid rules.

Larger schools might have internal technical support staff that can help you but for smaller schools this may well have been contracted out as part of the purchase agreement with the suppler or through an arrangement with a local, specialist support, company.

The school should have provided you with information on what action to take and who to contact in the event of any problems but if they haven’t done this, or you have misplaced the information you should contact your school main office first and ask for the correct contact.

In the event of problems occurring during school holiday periods, and if your school does not use an external company for support, then you will have to wait until the school re-opens before being able to resolve the problem.

The e-Learning Foundation has not been involved with the purchase or maintenance of any hardware or software and is regrettably unable to assist you in these areas.
